Ana Mandillo

Born in Lisbon, Ana Mandillo has studied at the Lycée Français Charles Lepierre (Lisbon), the António Arroio Art School, the professional actors course at the Centro Cultural de Évora and painting and drawing courses at Ar.Co (Lisbon).



As an actress, Ana Mandillo was a member of the Companhia do Centro Cultural de Évora, she entered in several films, namely: “Vertige” by Christine Laurent, or “As Bodas de Deus” by João de César Monteiro, among other cinematographic productions and she Integrates since its creation the Miso Music Portugal project “Electroacoustic Theatre”.

Ana Mandillo undertook several cultural activities in the field of museology, namely as a member of the Cultural Services of the Museu Nacional da Marioneta (1989-1994); or of the cultural services of the Museu Condes de Castro Guimarães in Cascais(1994-2007), with particular attention to the subjects of the social and pedagogical activities of the Museums. In this context she was granted, in 1996, a post-graduation scholarship in Museology, by the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, for a 6 months training education at the Musée de la Marionnette de Lyon (France), under the subject of the management of handicapped children through puppet shows.


In the field of Plastic Arts, her first individual painting and sculpture exhibit took place at the Gesto.Arte art gallery in Évora (1986). Several other exhibits followed, amongst which, the arts exhibit at the Botequim (1992).
In 1996 Ana Mandillo atelier sufferd a massive fire which destroyed most of her archives and an exhibition in preparation.
In 2010, she presented in Estoril, in the Música Viva Festival and in the Catholic Portuguese University, the exhibit “O Largo”, in collaboration with international musicians Jacques Tremblay (Canada), Anne-Claude Iger (France), Joaquim Pavão (Portugal) and the 3D animation technician Perseu Mandillo, corresponding to an original project of intercultural confluence, resulting in a new emerging artistic language in which painting music and three-dimensional narrative converge.
In 2011, Ana Mandillo presented her works, in Espaço Sarmento, under the name "A Luz de cada momento"; she began her collaboration with the Portuguese edition of the newspaper “Le Monde Diplomatique” illustrating articles, she lounged her monographic book “Impressões do caminho fresco” by Monóculo and she produced the covers for the CD editions “Smith Quartet: string quartet & electronics”, “Ana Telles: piano & electronics” e “Nuno Pinto: clarinet & electronics” by Miso Records.
In 2012, produces the icon for the online magazine “Gaudim Sciendi” of the Scientific Society of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa; she presented the exhibition “Partilha” (Sharing) at Galeria dos Prazeres in Madeira Island and at Centre Jean Vilard in Revin, France.
In 2013, Ana Mandillo presented her design collection of lamps at Casa Leão in Évora and in this context she began a collaboration with the jazz musician Carlos Barretto.
 

Presently she is developing the Project “Sound Plasticity’s” based on the works “Comunicações” and “Chambre d’enfants” by the composers Miguel Azguime and Francis Dhomont.
